What do 150 nerd ropes, 100 pounds of Jelly Belly jelly beans, 200 gumballs and 25 pounds of Hershey’s Kisses have in common? Besides the fact that they all fall in my top 10 list for favorite candy, they are also part of a deliciously grand holiday creation here in Richmond.
The historic five-star Jefferson Hotel has combined two beloved Christmas traditions – gingerbread houses and trains – with their new creation, Santa’s Steam Engine. According to our friends at The Jefferson, the train represents the historical holiday significance that the steam engine has held since 1830, when the first passenger train ran on Christmas day.
The massive gingerbread train, which is impressive just like The Jefferson Hotel, weighs in at more than 1000 pounds of icing, candy, and of course, gingerbread.
Here’s a list of all the full list of sugary pieces that make up the train:
- Over 350 pounds of traditional gingerbread
- Over 450 pounds of royal icing
- 300 candy Christmas lights
- 200 gumballs
- 400 cherry sours
- 100 twizzlers
- 50 sour candy belts
- 150 nerd ropes
- 40 pounds of rolled fondant
- 40 pounds of rock candy
- 50 pounds of melt away mints
- 100 pounds of assorted Jelly Belly jelly beans
- 50 pounds of Starbursts
- 25 pounds of gummy fruit slices
- 50 pounds Red Hots
- 25 pounds Hersheys Kisses
Now that’s a creation sure to put a sweet spot in your heart.
