Virginia Music Festivals in September You Need to Attend

Summer may be coming to an end, but that doesn’t mean Virginia’s music festivals are slowing down. September is full of music festivals covering almost every genre.

 

Patsy Cline Music Festival – Winchester, Va.
Sept. 3, 2016
This event honors and celebrates the legacy of Patsy Cline, a Winchester native. Activities include a block party in front of Patsy’ house and the “Saturday Night Shindig” featuring music by Viva la Muerte.

Front Porch Fest – Stuart, Va.
Sept. 2-4, 2016
Lovers of music come together in an intimate outdoor setting as local, regional and national musicians showcase their talent on three stages at the Spirithaven Farm. It all takes place on Virginia’s front porch to the Blue Ridge Mountains.

American Music Festival – Virginia Beach, Va.
Sept. 2-4, 2016
The largest outdoor musical event on the East Coast, the American Music Festival will feature three major headline bands on the 5th Street Main Stage on the Virginia Beach Oceanfront. 311, Culture Club and UB40 featuring Ali Campbell, Astro and Mickey Virtue will be performing.

Hillfest – Hillsville, Va.
Hillfest is three days of music, art, and Blue Ridge Mountain culture that takes place during Hillsville’s famous Labor Day Flea Market. The event features four stages and more than 30 bands, along with dancing, hot air balloons, artisans and vendors.

Appaloosa Festival – Front Royal, Va.
Sept. 3-4, 2016
The Appaloosa Festival is a roots music and outdoors experience, set at the Skyline Ranch Resort among the beautiful backdrop of the Blue Ridge Mountains and in the heart of Shenandoah Valley Wine Trail. Hosted by Scythian, Appaloosa features more than 40 bands on five stages, including some of the most critically acclaimed up-and-coming artists from all over the country.

Shenandoah Valley Music Festival – Orkney Springs, Va.
Sept. 3-4, 2016
One of the mid-Atlantic region’s longest-running outdoor music events, the Shenandoah Valley Music Festival presents world-class music by a stellar array of performers. Acts performing in September include Bruce Hornsby & the Noisemakers and the Hot Strings and Cool Breezes Bluegrass Minifest featuring The Grascals, Flatt Lonesome, and The Barefoot Movement.

Papa Joe Smiddy Music Festival – Duffield, Va.
Sept. 4, 2016
This festival honors the tireless work of “Papa Joe” Smiddy, a well-known old-time musician, entertainer and educator.  Enjoy a summer’s eve listening to traditional bluegrass music at the Natural Tunnel State Park amphitheater.


Farm Aid – Bristow, Va.
Sept. 17, 2016
Farm Aid’s annual concert is an all-day music and food festival, featuring a unique lineup of artists and genres and family farm-identified, local and organic foods. Attendees will have the chance to meet farmers, engage in hands-on food and farm activities, and learn about the ways family farmers are enriching soil, protecting water and growing the economy, in addition to bringing good food for good health. Live music performances by Willie Nelson, Dave Matthews, Neil Young, John Mellencamp, Alabama Shakes, and many more.

Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion – Bristol, Va.
Sept. 16-18, 2016
The award-winning Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion is a three-day music experience that celebrates Bristol’s heritage as the Birthplace of Country Music. State Street in historic Downtown Bristol comes alive with 22 stages of live music.
